@Zach:

It doesn't matter where you start your skydiving career. As long it's a place where you feel comfortable and at home. The sky in the one place is not different compared to the other places. Only the temperature and pollution in city areas will be different. It's nice when it's not to hot when you start.
Do not think you will care about landscape and views the first jumps you make. There is a hack of a lot to deal with when you learn skydiving; altitude, stability, pull, opening parachute, flying the right pattern, landing on the right spot etc.
When you finished your course and are more experienced, you can always visit other dropzones with nice sceneries.
Take in mind that skydiving is highly addictive, a dropzone close to your home is an advantage when you go jumping every weekend.

Visit a local dropzone and taste the atmosfere, find out if it's a good place for you to learn.

Good luck and blue skies!!!
