Sailboats in distress in stormy seas
Search and rescue crews are trying to help seven people from two different sailboats caught in stormy weather south of Nova Scotia. The Rochelle IV, carrying four people, was on its way from Shelburne to Bermuda when it called for help Thursday morning.
The boat lost its mast and engine, and was taking on water. One of the four has been injured.
The search and rescue centre in Norfolk, Va., contacted the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax, which dispatched a Hercules aircraft.
The plane is monitoring the boat, but cannot rescue the crew.
