Hiking Supplies

I know this may seem pretty obvious to others. But I have not been on quite as many hikes as others have. So besides a good pair of boots and some water what else is there to bring?

Hi Excal,

A lot of it depends on how long of hike you are going on and what the weather is like.

If it's just a short day hike I would say bring water, snacks, a knife and a small first aid kit with bandages and stuff. Good boots and good socks are always smart to have on a hike. Maybe a flash light if there is any chance you might be out after dark.

Its always a good idea to have a fanny pack with some snacks, a compass, utility knife, a map of the area (a GOOD one .. preferably a topo map), and maybe a hiking pole.

While it seems retarded you should prepare for the worst ... watch the survivor shows on the Discovery ... they can survive for a few days on a handful of nuts and a good knife ... makes you think in case you get lost ^^

Yeah, good point. There's an interesting post about those survivor shows going on in the survial forum. I guess one of them is totally fake... Anyone watch Survivor Man?

Yea but the one where the guy who films himself is top notch. I do agree the other one had some shady quality's to it.
