Living off the land

This is one of the things I'd like to do. Anyone tried it?

Bring a knife and other basic survival stuff. Head out into the wilderness and survive by setting snares, picking berries, fishing. No shave, no haircuts, no showers. No comfort.

Be primitive. Primal. Get in touch with my savage self.

Return to society and appreciate all the things I took for granted more than ever before. Be familiar with my own limits and capabilities. I'd probably want to stay out there for about a month, unless I failed miserably and ran out of food.

I'd go in a cold area I think. I'm from a cold country and had military training in it, so it would be familiar. Water wouldn't really be an issue. And no poisonous creepers to kill me in my sleep. I imagine the sense of adventure and independence would be incredible.

you should read the book "hatchet". it's about a teenage boy who gets stranded in the wilderness with nothing but a hatchet and manages to survive for weeks.

there are many wildernesses all throughout the USA where you can do that. most of the smaller ones however have rules like how long you can stay and stuff. most of the ones is socal don't allow fire because of the high fire dangers. check out wilderness.net

i've been wanting to do this for a long long time, and it took me awhile to find that website. i think i might plan to go towards the end of winter so there'll be more water. then later next year i want to plan on doing wilderness camping at sequoia or kings canyon. that would be pretty hip.
