Los Cabos San Lucas

A few weeks ago I did one of my first dive trips to Los Cabos.

While it's not Caribbean waters it was still gorgeous. I had the chance to swim with some sea lions and turtles which made for a interesting dive. I also had the chance to do my first night dives and saw some of the stragest things in my life.

We used Deep Blue and ended up liking the staff a lot! If your down there I recommend that shop!

Anyone else been?

I've never been to Cabo but I did Cancun this summer. It was my first time drift diving (at least intentionally). The current was really strong but once I got used to not being able to swim to where I wanted to go it was really cool to site back, chill and let the reef float by. I also did a Cenote dive, which was really cool. It was a little creapy diving in a cave for the first time but the water was so clear you almost felt like you weren't under water as some points. Here are some of my photos from the trip:

Do you have to be fully certified to dive on trips like that. Or do the companies offer a kind of crash course on diving?

Most destinations dive locations offer "resort dives" where you take a class in the morning and then dive in the afternoon. People have varying opinions on these types of classes. Although they are a good introduction of scuba diving, the safety stuff is really important and you'll get more of that in an open water certification course.

I agree with Ian. It is better to get fully certified before diving. The resort dives, depending on where you are, really push people through pretty fast. You can usually get all you classroom stuff done in two weekends and then do your check out dives before you go on vacation or do them when you get there like I did.

This is what we have set up for our time in May down in the Sea of Cortez B.C.S., Mexico. We will be doing our certification through Cortez Explorers. I can't wait. I've done some amazing free diving but yet to experience the real underwater feeling of Scuba.

I'm interested to hear how your trip goes. Be careful, I caught the diving bug and now I can't stop! I'm definitely hooked! I used to take trips where I sailed and dived in the same trip but now I take separate dive trips so I can get in more diving.

Thumbs up You'll love Cabo...dove there twice

I think you are too far north but if not you should also go to Cabo Pulmo (approx 40-50 miles north of Cabo San Lucas). It is advertised as the "only living reef in the Sea of Cortez" and was worth the trip from CSL. While the water is colder (72+ degrees) than the Caribbean, and the underwater life not as colorful, it still was fun.
