Snorkeling!

Who here likes to go snorkeling? I haven't been in a while, think I will plan to next summer! I usually go in the local lakes here in New England. Nothing exciting like shipwrecks around here though.

I have only been snorkeling in saltwater once when I stayed in Grand Cayman as a child. I absolutely loved it w/ all my heart. There were some amazing reefs and I distinctly remember two shipwrecks that were teaming w/ beautiful fish.

I've only done a little saltwater snorkeling. It's a nice change to see lobster, crabs, and other crustaceans instead of the typical lake life.

wow... It has been so long since I've gone that I don't even have any equipment anymore. Too much work, work, work... I'll have to go this summer.

Yeah, it was way more interesting than looking at lake fish. I going to have to head down to the Caribbean again soon. Though, this time I hope to scuba dive.

I've had the chance to do some diving in legendary waters 50 miles from the Baja California Sur coast in the Pacific Ocean. Way out there is a underwater sea mount only 60 ft. deep. The sea life is insane. There you get to swim with schools of yellowtail, grouper, hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, whale sharks, swordfish, wahoo. It's not easy to get there and a little scary once you arrive, but the wonder quickly overwhelms the fear.

That sounds like some awesome diving! I haven't done any diving or snorkeling that far from shore before.

And if you ever get down to Baja California Mex. I could get you out there to try it. It's not all that hard to do and it is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. It's not a trip for the faint hearted. Another great option is the mid spring on the sea of Cortez. The water is warm and the sea life around the islands is abundant. We are doing a watersports tour down there in May. I have yet to scuba dive so I will take this opportunity to get certified and get to really experience the undersea world.

That sounds great, pointsurfbaja! Whale sharks would be awesome (They're like a bus underwater, from what I hear!), not to mention swordfish and hammerheads.

I went snorkeling on Phi Phi in Thailand. Amazing. The water was incredibly clear, and saw all sorts of funny fish (though I couldn't really name any.)

This prompted me to get my Open Water at another island, which was incredible. Turtles, leopard shark, moray eels, barracuda, stingray, clownfish and scorpionfish were some of the cooler things I saw.

When I was 10 a family friend paid for my brother, mother and I to go to Australia and New Zealand for two weeks. We actually ended up visiting the Great Barrier Reef for a day. So we al went snorkeling there. I wish I was a bit older though. I probably would of been able to appreciate the beauty of the GBR a lot more if I was able to go back at my age now.
