The fuel bottles and multi fuel capabilities make this a very versatile stove. You can fly with the empty fuel bottles and you can find a fuel almost anywhere that you can burn in this stove. My number one choice for sure!

I've used a variety of stoves over the years, and the WhisperLite Internationale is hands down the most reliable stove I've ever used. I've had mine for about 10 years, used it myself on many occasions and loaned it to my equipment abusive friends quite often as well. I think it's probably seen between 200-250 days on the trail. It's performed admirably from dusty New Mexico, to well below freezing temps and altitude in the Rockies, to wet and soggy campsites in Minnesota. With the amount of abuse this little stove has taken, it should have checked out years ago - but it's still the same blowtorch today that it was the first time I used it. It can be tricky at first, but once you know how to work it, you can simmer quite nicely. I've never had to replace the pump, and I've only had to oil the plunger cup a couple of times. I did replace the priming wick once, but that was more cosmetic than anything, you really don't even need it. Heck, this stove has outlived its original fuel bottle! The shaker jet technology is supposed to allow you to clean it with a shake - on the trail I've never had to find out - I've never needed to. I do take it apart and clean it once a year, so apparently a minimum of maintenance renders the shaker jet a moot point. I still have the same repair kit that I bought with the stove. I think I wasted my money on the repair kit.

difficult to light correctly
|

I found that the Whisperlite Internationale was an excellent stove in terms of power and versatility--we were able to bring .5 liters of water to a rolling boil in less than a minute while burning white gas. Light weight and simple design are outstanding. My only complaint is that it is a difficult stove to light correctly. The priming cup must be adequately preheated to ensure a good burn, but we found that in windy conditions the priming cup would not warm sufficiently (even using the windscreen) and the flame would therefore burn erratic and yellow. This caused a large amount of build-up, resulting in us having to shake the stove several times before, during, and after each usage to keep the jet clean. Although the shaker jet cleaning system is a great innovation, we found that we had to disassemble our stove for an "annual" cleaning by its fifth use. Once again, this may be an exceptional case, as we had high winds and were forced to burn large amounts of fuel during the priming and cooking procedures to maintain proper fuel vaporization.
Great Stove but difficult for beginners
Haven't really got a chance to use this out camping but I have used it to heat some meals on day hikes and such. Overall the assembly and disassembly is a snap and cleaning it up is a snap. it burns hot enough to cook just about anything but it's hard to control the flame. Would be difficult for beginners to use but it can be learned.
It can simmer!
My previous review stands except that I have proven that this stove can simmer. I was able to cook rice (not the instant kind) without burning the bottom, which is hard to do without simmering. Like I said before, it just takes practice.
Near bulletproof
Beware, I've only burned the cheap varieties of white gas (Coleman fuel and such) but this stove has never failed me in 5 years or so. If the pump refuses to pump, a little saliva on the leather diaphragm thingy will buy you several days. A little mineral oil (I use baby oil) will make it pump like a champ for weeks. I've even way overloaded the little stove with a huge steamer pot of oysters and it didn't even whimper. A little tough to simmer foods but you'll get the hang of it. Highly recommended!
